Signatories of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic

Take a look at the photographs below of the seven signatories of the Proclamation of the Irish Republic. See if you can name each person and write some facts you have learned or researched about each one. Post them in a comment, saying which picture is matched to which name, and what facts you have learned.

    Picture 1- Joseph Mary Plunkett- Fact Joseph Mary Plunkett suffered from T.B as a child.

    Picture 2. James Connolly- Fact James Connolly learned to speak Italian.

    Picture 3. Eamonn Ceannt- Fact. Eamonn Ceannt was apart of the pipers club in the Gaelic League.

    Picture 4- Sean Mac Diarmada- Fact. Sadly Sean Mac Diarmada was executed.

    Picture 5.- Padraig Pearse- Fact. Great Brunswick street was renamed Pearse street after him and his brother.

    Picture 6. Thomas Mac Donagh- Thomas Mac Donagh was a poet aswell as a leader of the 1916 Rising.

    Picture 7. Thomas Clarke- Thomas Clarke was born on the Isle Of Wight.

    Above is one fact on each of the seventh leaders of the 1916 Rising.

    2. James Connolly was sailing over to New YORK FOR his family but his daughter Mona died.

    3.Eamonn Ceannt played for the pipers in the league.

    4. Sean Mac Diarmada was born in 1883 and he was the 8th child of 10.

    5. Padraig Pearse loved music and writting.

    6. Thomas Mac Donagh loved potery.

    Padraig Pearse stood in front of the GPO and said the signitory.
    Eamonn Ceannt was a piper and the pope requested to see him play.
    Thomas Clarke joined the IRB in 1878.
    James Connolly's daughter died after boiling water severly burnt her.
    Joe Plunkett won a rollerskating prize.
    Thomas Mac Donagh was appointed the comandant of all the Irish volenteers.
    Sean Mac Diarmada failed the states exam and so moved firstly to Glasgow to be a gardener and then to Belfast to be a train conductor

    2. James Connolly sailed over to newyork to help his family and when the family cam over his oldest child mona wasnt there.
    3. Eamonn Ceant was from East Galway.
    4. Sean Mac Diarmada was the 8th child of 10.
    5. Padraig Pearse was named after Pearse street.
    6.Thomas McDonagh was born in Cloughgordon, County Tipperary
    7. Thomas Clarke was born in Leitrim.

    Eamonn Ceannt: Played For The Pipers League.
    Sean MacDiarmada: He Was One Of The Leaders Of The 1916 Rising.
    Padraig Pearse: Pearse Street Was Named After Him And His Brother.
    Thomas McDonagh: He Loved Poetry.
    Thomas Clarke: He Was From Leitrim.

    Picture 1: Joseph Mary Plunkett. Fact:He was the editor of the Irish review and wrote : The Circle and the Sword.

    Picture 2: James Connolly. Fact:Was born in an Irish slum in Edinburgh.

    Picture 3: Eamonn Ceannt. Fact: He said every Irish man should have Military Training.

    Picture 4: Sean Mac Diarmada. Fact: Sean had caught Polio and had to walk with a cane because of it.

    Picture 5: Padraig Pearse. Fact: Wrote the Proclamation of the Irish and read it outside the GPO.

    Picture 6: Thomas Mac Donagh. Fact: Studied to be a priest but left when he realized it wasn't for him.

    Picture 7: Thomas Clarke. Fact: He lived in South Africa for 6 years and returned when he was s7 years old.

    2.James Connolly was born in the Cowgate area of Edinburgh, Scotland.
    3.Eamonn Ceannt was born in east County Galway in the town of Ballymoe.
    4.Padraig Pearse and his brother Willie were born at 27 Great Brunswick Street, the street that is named after them.
    5.Sean Mac Diarmada was one of the leaders of the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland.
    6.Thomas Mac Donagh was born in Cloughjordan, County Tipperary.
    7.Thomas Clarke spent 15 years in prison. Following his release he organized the Easter Rising.

    Picture 4 - Sean Mac Diarmada - Sean was executed in Kilmainham Jail.

    Picture 5 - Padraig Pearse - He wrote stories and poems in both Irish and English.

    Picture 6 - Thomas Mac Donagh - Both of Thomas' parents were teachers.

    Picture 7 - Thomas Clarke - At the age of 18 Thomas joined the IRB.

  11. 1.Joeseph Mary Plunket-He loved modern things and was a 20th century man in the 19th.

    2.James Connolly-could not make a living from mending or fixing shoes.

    3.Eamonn Ceannt-Belived in violence and the only way to get the british to listen was to thretan them.

    4.Sean Mac Diarmada-Was put to death by the British.

    5.Padraig Pearse-Was an Irish nationalist.

    6.Thomas Mac Dunagh-Was born on the 1st February 1878 to the 3rd May 1916.

    7.Thomas Clarke-Was put to death in kilmanium Jail.

  12. 1. Joseph Mary Plunkett. He had TB a type of disease as a child.

    2. James Connolly. He went to New York to work and he had to wait for almost a week until thay arrived.

    3. Eamonn Ceannt. Eamonn Ceannt joined the Gaelic League and was interseted in the Irish culture.

    4. Sean Mac Diarmad was born on the 28th February 1883 in Co. Leitrim.

    5. Padraig Pearse. Padraig Pearse was born November 10th 1879.

    6. Thomas Mac Donagh. Sean Mac Donagh was born in 1878.

    7. Thomas Clarke. Thomas Clarke was releasd from prison after 15 years in Winter 1898.

    6.Thomas McDonagh:Was a poet.

    4.Sean Mac Diarmada = He was born in Leitrim and in 1908 he moved to Dublin.
    5.Padraig Pearse = Was born in Dublin on the 10th of November 1879..
    6.Thomas Mac Donagh = He had strong friendships with Eoin MacNeill and Patrick Pearse.
    7.Thomas Clarke = He joined the IRB when he was 18.
